The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Manager leads and manages the field based MSL team, ensuring in conjunction with the Medical Director and that ethical, compliant, timely and effective medical and scientific expertise and initiatives are provided and are aligned with the operational plan and medical department objectives. The MSL Manager provides strategic and tactical leadership advice and expertise within the medical team and, in conjunction with the affiliate and Franchise medical specialists, ensures expertise within the scientific, clinical and therapeutic area to support on a non-promotional basis, medical and scientific initiatives for marketed and pipeline products. He/she provides strategic leadership and guidance to the MSL team in the identification of local opportunities, using his/her, knowledge of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL); the therapeutic area and health characteristics of the population. Consequently, the MSL Manager has responsibility for the leadership and development of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Team and the implementation of the scientific activities and the clinical plan.
As a Medical Scientific Liaison Manager, you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Acting as the connection between the healthcare industry and product development, medical science liaisons are skilled clinical researchers and talented ‘people persons’ who bring the latest research and knowledge of therapeutic specialties to the people who develop therapeutic products.
  • Build, enhance and maintain the engagement with scientific leaders
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and building a well-informed advocacy
  • Act as conduits of information about new research developments, clinical trial activities and therapeutic approaches.
  • The job involves cultivating and maintaining relationships with academic researchers and leaders, attending conferences and talks, presenting information to pharmaceutical product teams and marketing new therapeutic products to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Medical science liaisons travel often, work intensively with people at every step of the therapeutic product development process and translate dense, academic information into engaging, persuasive messages.
Experience & Qualifications:
– Proven experience in successfully leading, coaching and managing a team of MSLs/Scientific professionals
– Proven experience and successful track record as an MSL professional in a previous company and a proven
– Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credible and scientific relationships with top experts in the/a speciality disease area
– Language: Expert/fluent communicator in their local language and excellent knowledge of written and spoken scientific English

– Maintains highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to effectively lead and coach a team of MSLs and work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
– Demonstrates an ability to build and maintain a strong network of effective scientific relationships with stakeholders and maintain an understanding for HCPs, to achieve trusted advisor status.
– Is an engaging presenter/trainer, impactful and memorable, having gravitas with medics and non-medics alike and strong communication, networking and stakeholder skills.
– Is able to understand, implement and execute appropriate elements of medical strategy, whilst understanding how to be creative & compliant at the same time.
– Demonstrates excellent time management skills and is able to manage complex and to adapt to new circumstances and ideas.
– Demonstrates an ability to be entrepreneurial and able to work in a highly dynamic environment.
