7 Habits That Will Make You The Leader Your Colleagues Aspire To Be

Being a leader isn’t as rosy and glamorous as what we see in movies and children’s cartoons. Being a leader takes a lot of hard work and responsibility to guide a team in the right direction. It is at the leader’s discretion whether the team will achieve success or not.

The power of leadership is appealing to anyone. However, not everyone can hold this power effectively. What are the habits that signify a good leadership and inspire your subordinates? Take cues from these:

  1. Responsive

Great leaders are intuitively connected to their people. They understand what motivates as well as discourages their team. As a leader, you need to learn to listen to your people. What are their goals? Their needs? Are they comfortable with your progress? Their teammates? You will see that having a better grasp of what goes through the members of the workplace makes it easier to lead them wherever you want them to go.

  1. Responsible

Leaders take responsibility—not simply for the tasks their team must undergo to—but also for the whole team. Great leaders understand that everyone in the group’s performance is the reflection of his leadership ability. Therefore, the failure of a team member is his failure as a leader.

Leaders also initiate to solve a difficult problem that no one wants to take charge with. They understand that no one will fix the problem unless they lead everyone to it and show how it’s done.

How can you follow someone who’s so reckless and disorganized?

One of the qualities of a good leader is that he or she’s organized. A great leader looks ahead and plans well, according to what he or she foresees. He or she has a plan A, B, C, until plan Z. This way, the team will never be like mindless mice if ever a problem pops out.

Not only are they organized, they are also good at following through with their plans. Good leaders are determined to reach their team’s goals. They will plan and do anything they believe are right in order to complete their mission. They have grit, a strong will to do whatever it takes to strike the bull’s eye.

  1. Sincere

Of course, the mark of a true leader is sincerity. They don’t manipulate people to do their will. They are transparent about the whereabouts of their team. They are vulnerable yet firm in their convictions. If you want to be a good leader, you must think your team as an extension of yourself.

  1. Effective Communicators

Effective communication is the key for easier and more fruitful leadership. When you are able to communicate your ideas clearly, people will have no trouble understanding where you are getting from.

Also, notice how historical leaders like Ghandi or Hitler were able to influence thousands of masses because of their fluency and communication style. The more effective of a communicator you are, the more people will be eager to listen to you.

  1. Good Followers

As cliché as this sounds, great leaders are also good followers. Now, the question is: Who are they following? The answer to that question is not who, but what. Great leaders are good followers of their principles, goals, and beliefs. They won’t be able to lead anyone anywhere without knowing where to go or what they should reach out as a team. They make sure that don’t exempt themselves from the same path that they are urging their team to go through.

These are just some of the habits of leaders should cultivate in themselves  to be able to nurture a successful working environment for everyone. But remember, everyone have different styles of leadership—and every leadership style varies depending on the group, the environment, and the goal. Great leaders are simply not born, they are made through various experiences and challenging situations. In the business industry, being a good leader is something that everyone should pursue for a continuous growth, development, and success.
